TAGUM City eyes its own “green” building code to pave the way for the establishment of more eco-friendly establishments in the city.
Interface Development Interventions (Idis) executive director Chinkie Pelino-Golle underscored the importance of having “green” buildings alongside with the growing economic development of Tagum City.
Pelino-Golle said in a media forum that urban development and environment preservation can come hand-in-hand in order to secure the city’s progress.
“For urban livability naa pud tay mga strategies na unta ma push pud nato like the green building code sa Davao naa na pud unta sa Tagum (For urban livability, we also have strategies that hopefully be pushed like the green building code in Davao to also be adopted in Tagum City),” Pelino-Golle said.
Green Building Ordinance 2018 of Davao City aims to improve building establishments in the aspects of energy efficiency, water efficiency, materials and waste management, site sustainability, and indoor environmental quality.
“We are hoping that alongside with the future urban developments in Tagum, the city will also continue in making more investments in sustainable green establishments,” Pelino-Golle said.
Green building is the practice of adopting sustainable features and measures in the design, construction, and operation of the building.
Davao City's ordinance states that green building requirements shall apply entirely to new buildings.
Covered are residential buildings with total floor area greater than 20,000 square meters, office buildings with total floor area greater than 10,000 square meters, mixed-use buildings with the total floor area greater than 10,000 square meters, educational buildings with the total floor area greater than 5,000 square meters, retail buildings with total floor area greater than 15,000 square meters, hotel buildings, hospital buildings, and government buildings.
