A LA Trinidad official is seeking higher incentives for athletes in the municipality.
Councilor Guiller Galwan recently filed a proposal revising the sports incentive ordinance of the municipality stating the incentives seek to serve as motivation and for athletes to excel in their own sport.
Winners in events who garnered gold, silver or bronze medals including their respective coaches who were endorsed to represent the Municipality of La Trinidad in the provincial, regional and national competitions are given monetary incentives.
The proposed measure added athletes participating in any sports competition should not have monetary subsidy or cash prices and must be sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee, Philippine Olympic Committee, Philippine Sports Commission, National Sports Associations, barangays, Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Department of Education.
The winning athlete together with their coach are entitled to claim the incentive within 60 days from receipt of medals and are asked submit requirements to the office of the municipal sports coordinator for the approval of the cash incentives.
During the public hearing, it was bared the revised cash incentives for individual event in the national level are P7,000 for gold medalist from 4,000; P5,000 for silver from P2,000 and P3,000 for bronze from P1,500.
For winning athletes in the international level, they are set to receive P10,000 from P8,000 for gold medalists, P7,000 from P5,000 for silver medalists, and P5,000 from P3,000 for bronze.
An athlete winning in the regional level will get P1,500 for gold medalist, P1,200 for silver and P1,000 for bronze.
Winning teams in the national stage are expected to receive P15,000 from P5,000 for gold; P2,500 to P10,000, and P7,000 from P2,000 for bronze. In the international level, winners will receive P25,000 from P8,000 for gold; P20,000 from P5,000 for silver and P15,000 from P4,000 for bronze.
An amount of P1.5 million is being proposed for the effective implementation of the ordinance.
