5-year-old boy dies of dengue

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD boy from Purok Sambag in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City died of dengue on October 27, said Dr. Grace Tan, City Health Office-Environmental Sanitation Division head.

Tan said the boy, who was suffering from fever, was admitted at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital on October 26.

She said the boy was the 11th fatality since January of 2018.

Other fatality was a six-year-old girl from Barangay 34, who succumbed to dengue on October 1.

In September, a three-year-old boy from Barangay Mandalagan, a six-year-old-boy from Barangay Taculing, a seven-year-old girl from Barangay Felisa, and a six-year-old boy from Barangay Villamonte died due to dengue.

In August, a six-year-old girl in Barangay Singcang-Airport and a 23-year-old woman in Barangay Alijis also died.

In March, an eleven-year-old boy in Barangay Pahanocoy, and a six-year-old boy in Barangay Felisa also passed away, as well as the six-year-old girl in Barangay Sum-ag in February.

Tan said from January to November 3, Bacolod has a total of 1,118 dengue cases which decreased by 34 percent compared to last year’s 1,698 cases with 11 deaths during the same period.

Of the 1,118 cases, Barangay Handumanan posted the highest number of cases with 117, she said.

Others include Barangay Taculing with 106 cases; Barangay Estefania with 94 cases; Barangay Mansilingn with 90 cases; Barangay Villamonte with 72 cases; Barangay Singcang-Airport with 68 cases; Barangay Sum-ag with 64 cases; Barangay Alijis with 65 cases; Barangay Granada with 50 cases; Barangay Pahanocoy with 44 cases; Barangay Tangub with 43 cases; Barangay Mandalagan with 39 cases; Barangay Pta. Taytay with 32 cases; Barangay Bata with 26 cases; Barangay Felisa with 24 cases; Barangay Banago with 23 cases; Barangay Vista Alegre with 17 cases; and Barangay Alangilan with 15 cases.

Tan reiterated the need to practice the “4S” in households and surroundings to prevent and control dengue.

It means to search and destroy mosquito breeding place, use self-protection measures, seek early consultation for fever lasting more than two days, and say no to indiscriminate fogging.(MAP)
