Police say 4 men behind La Union ambush

THE police said at least four men were involved in the ambush that led to the killing of Balaoan, La Union Vice Mayor Alfred Concepcion and wounding of his daughter, Mayor Aleli Concepcion.

Senior Superintendent Ricardo Layug, La Union police chief, said based on the accounts of several witnesses, at least four gunmen alighted from a sports utility vehicle and fired at the vehicle carrying the father and daughter.

The incident happened around 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, in Barangay Cabuaan.

Layug said they have yet to make artist's sketch of any of the suspects.

“Wala pang makuha (artist sketch) pero ‘yung isang pulis natin na tinamaan nakita n’ya ‘yung mukha, kaya lang nasa operating room pa s’ya, hindi pa rin sya makapagbigay ng description,” he said.

(One of the policemen wounded in the incident saw the faces of the assailants, but he is still in the operating room. He could not provide a description yet.)

He also said they have yet to get the statement of Mayor Aleli, who survived the gun attack, as well as that of the other witnesses in the area.

Layug said they were looking at three possible motives of the attack, namely politics, business and personal. (SunStar Philippines)
