ALL is set for the opening on Friday, November 16, of this year’s Festival of Lights that would transform the Provincial Capitol grounds of Zamboanga Sibugay into a little Disneyland.

Helen Dongog, Zamboanga Sibugay acting provincial tourism officer, said this year’s festival is bigger and brighter.

“Sibugaynons don’t need to go to Hong Kong, Australia, and London just to visit Disneyland,” Dongog said.

For this year’s festival, the provincial government brings the most visited theme parks around the world such as the Ocean Park of Hong Kong, Legoland of Malaysia, Disney Castle of Disneyland in Hong Kong, Luna Park of Australia, Minnie Mouse’s House, Disneyland in Orlando, Florida of the United States of America, Astro Blasters of Disneyland in Hong Kong, Harry Potter Castle in Japan, Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland of Paris, Hello Kitty of Japan, and Hollywood Pictures in Florida.

The mini-Disneyland theme park was set up in front of the Provincial Capitol in Ipil town by the 10 participating local government units and government agencies, including cooperatives.

Each theme park is an entry of the participating LGUs and agencies. The entries will go through three rounds of judging and will be judged based on creativity

and interpretation, quality of workmanship, artistic combination of lights, and overall attractiveness.

Dongog said the festival is aimed at boosting the tourism industry of the province.

Governor Willter Yap Palma will lead the lighting ceremony on Friday. It will be

followed by a fireworks display.

The Festival of Lights will culminate on February 28, 2019, the 18th founding anniversary of Zamboanga Sibugay, the 79th province created in the country.

The province was carved out of the third district of Zamboanga del Sur in 2001. It is composed of two congressional districts with 16 towns. Ipil is the capital town. (SunStar Philippines)
