Bananas lead to one death, one hacking incident

"BAHALAG saging basta labing (Banana is fine to eat as along as we love each other)," so goes the old Cebuano saying, depicting a couple's undying love despite hardships.

In Sitio Lower, Barangay Tubod, Toledo City, banana played a role in the rift between a couple that led to a murder past 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov.13.

Azusina Caballero Cular, 43, was stabbed dead by her husband Marcelo, 36, during their argument. The suspect surrendered to a police officer living near their village,

Marcelo told the investigator that he got angry at his wife, who allegedly berated him for giving a neighbor some bananas. He used a knife to stab her several times, leaving their three young children motherless.

A parricide complaint will be filed against the suspect before the Toledo City Prosecutor's Office.

In Sitio Buntoran, Barangay Alpaco, City of Naga, Cebu, an argument over a banana plant led a father to attack his son.

At 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, Roland Omandam, 34, landed in the hospital after he was hacked by his father Rolando, 75.

Investigation showed Omandam planted the banana. He got angry when he found out that his father harvested the fruits.

Omandam confronted his father. Irked, Rolando hacked his son with a bolo, hitting the latter in left shoulder.

Omandam was rushed to a hospital, while Rolando was arrested by a watchman of Barangay Alpaco.
