THE City Government of San Fernando recently recognized the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) for topping the list on program effectiveness and citizens’ program awareness.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) requested local government units to conduct a citizens’ satisfaction survey, to get feedback on the delivery of services in the aspect of health, education, social welfare, and governance, among others.

The City Government of San Fernando, in its recent survey covering some 2,399 respondents from 35 villages, noted that 80 percent said that PhilHealth is the most effective program being delivered by the local government unit.

The said health insurance office also garnered the highest rank in program awareness with a 92.21 percent rate, which means that majority of Fernandinos are aware of the implementation of the program.

Earlier, PhilHealth regional vice president Walter Bacareza mentioned in 2017 that about 98 percent the city’s residents are covered by the program.

For his part, Mayor Edwin Santiago expressed that every Fernandino's health is one of the top priorities of the city, which would continuously expand its PhilHealth reach to 100 percent.

“Every Fernandino must have access to quality health care. This is part of our drive in complying with the Universal Health Care. Our target is that by 2019, all Fernandinos are covered by PhilHealth," Santiago said.
