Vicente: Overtraining versus undertraining

TRAINING too much or training less, many odd beliefs of training arise when the issue of overtraining and undertraining comes to the picture.

Things like overtraining is bad because it consumes the needed strength that should be used in competition and training less conserves the needed strength for competitions, as well as “I will get back to training when the competition is near.”

Some misconception of training comes into obvious ignorance of the benefits and the dangers involve in training weather it is overtraining or undertraining.

Not many really understand that training is the state where the body is indulged to adapt to certain activities in order for the body to be familiarized to movements and its necessary adjustments.

Overtraining or undertraining should not be the issue but how the body actually gained from training.

Elite trainers say that instead of overtraining or undertraining, the most appropriate term for it is simply trained or untrained, each of us are capable of movements and performances. The purpose of training is to enhance those essential aspects and bring out more from what is usual, adverse or negative effects associated to either overtraining or undertraining are actually outcome of wrong training unrelated to overdoing it or under doing it so to speak, trainings that may have resulted to the unfortunate outputs like injuries etc. are products of wrong training usually due to incompetent trainer or training regimen.

We perform according to how we train with the outcome as a result of what we have invested, even those who have laid low from training but still manages to snatch a win despite having less time to train could not be considered undertrained, although it’s not an excuse. Their achievement is due to the gains from trainings that they have done in the past even having rested for a while and trying to compete again with less preparation and managing to still win is not pure luck but a deep access to the arsenal that has been stacked from the full training undertaken before the rest.

Everything that involves training is not coincidence or luck, training will always produce an output weather it is efficient or not depends on the trainer and his training and how relevant it is for his trainee.
