Villanueva: Brent School, PTA hold fundraisers this weekend

BRENT International School Baguio (BISB) conducts various community service programs that aim to benefit the school’s greater community within Baguio City and beyond.

As an Ecumenical Christian school, these programs are incorporated into the school’s education framework.

The flagship and the biggest outreach activity is the Medical-Dental-Optical Mission held every April, for almost 20 years now. Thousands of residents of Baguio and nearby municipalities and provinces have benefitted from this outreach program.

In order to conduct these programs, a huge amount is necessary for their success. Throughout the year, various stakeholders of Brent School organize fundraising activities, with the perspective that if more funds are raised, more people may benefit from their community service programs.

In relation to this, there are two major events that are happening this weekend. On Friday, November 16, is the Brent Cup Open Golf Tournament at the Camp John Hay Golf Club and on the Saturday and Sunday is the Brent School Christmas Bazaar at the Brent School Gym.

The Brent Cup Open Golf Tournament is on its third year of staging. This is the biggest event organized by the Brent School Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) for the purpose of raising funds for the Medical-Dental-Optical Mission and other community service programs of the school.

The tournament’s ceremonial tee-off will be at 7:15am, and this will be headed by Mayor Mauricio Domogan, joined by Mr. Dick Robbins, Brent Schools President/CEO, Mr. Carlos Rivera, Brent PTA President, Mr. Andre Bautista, Tournament Chair, and Mr. Tim Avramidis, CJH Golf Club General Manager. The awarding ceremonies of the Brent Cup will be at 6 p.m. at the Camp John Hay Golf Club House.

This will be participated by about 120 golfers. There will be a number of prizes for the winners courtesy of the various sponsors and patrons. The major sponsors of the Brent Cup include the Camp John Hay Golf Club, Le Chef, Ele’s Bed & Breakfast, Chevron Philippines (Caltex) and Mizuno (Master Sports Corp).

The Brent School Christmas Bazaar is also happening over the weekend.

This year, there are again 100 micro and small enterprises that are given the opportunity to display and sell their products. Their products range from Christmas decors, clothes, shoes, bags and accessories, home and kitchen utensils, snack & food items, and many more.

The bazaar has become one of the more anticipated events in the locality, and draws annually thousands of shoppers from all over Northern Luzon.

This has resulted to better support for entrepreneurs, and more funds raised for the outreach mission.

The Brent School’s Medical-Dental-Optical mission will be held on April 27, 2019.
