PD888 makes it to semis, paralyzes Toyota Bacolod CSA-B 85-76

PD888 Handy Fix advance to the semis with a victory over Toyota Bacolod CSA-B 85-76 and unbeaten teams BBC and Bapro fell to Talisay City and Probac respectively in the 10th TKP Memorial Baskeball Cup at TTHS Po Hang Gym, in Bacolod City.

In Class C action at the Nompac Gym Terra Dolce dealt GT Net its 1st loss 78-62 while Foodman rolled over an undermanned Cebu Sendai Motor Sales 93-68.

PD888 ended their elimination campaign with a 4-1 card.

Toyota dropped to 3-2 and will play a knockout match against an undetermined opponent as of press time.

The game between the Province of Negros Occidental and UNO-R was rescheduled for Sunday after an hour-long Brownout hit the venue.

Last Friday Handy Fix had its biggest lead in the ballgame at 43-31 as Joemil Garrido hit 2 straight layups, but CSAB Alfred Valle, Jun Jun Lastimosa and Jornel Laborte cut the lead to 45-40 at the break.

The CSAB trio opened with a 6-0 run in the 3rd canto to take its 1st lead in the game at 46-45.

There were several swift exchanges between the teams in the 3rd of the quarter at 60-58.

Mamerto Santillan 4 ft. was answered by big men Paul Hechanova and Gifter Gigje long jumpers to keep the lead for Toyota at 65-63.

Jornel Laborte layup gave Toyota its last lead of the game at 67-65 as the troika of Garrido, Santillan and Salazar conspired on a 7-0 run, a Laborte bankshot and Gigje jumper to draw close at 73-71.

Garrido and Salazar back to back triple sandwiched a Lastimosa layup for a 79-73 lead with 1:51 left.

Gigje and Jacob last ditch effort that cut the deficit to 3 with a minute left fell short as Salazar and Tizon sealed the outcome with their clutch free throws.

Johson Salazar and Garrido paced Handy Fix with 22 and 21 backstopped by Santillan 16 while Toyota was led by Valle 22, Laborte 14, Gigje 10, Lastimosa 9.

In Saturday Class B action BBC fell to Talisay City 91-86 and Probac held off Bapro 88-82.

Talisay came out smoking for 11-1 lead behind Benjo Ballo Allo and Aldrich Apuang, but BBC closed the gap in the 1st quarter at 18-15.

With momentum on BBC side, Aling Cervales and Rico Cabato combined to give BBC the lead at halftime 40-38 even as Ryan Hugnatan had 10 points for Talisay in the quarter.

A balance offense coming from Rey Sayon, Joemarie Lagura and Leo Magbanua with 9, 10 and 6 points, respectively gave Talisay a 71-58 lead. Cresmark Dayumat delivered 8 points and Jay Uy had 7 points for BBC.

In the final canto back to back 3-pointer by Cabato cut the lead to 74-68 with 7:20 left.

Talisay brought the lead back to 10 and BBC will reduce it to single digit.

Carlo Dela Torre and Dayumant putbacks made it 84-81 with 1:33 left.

Hugnatan 4 straight points gave Talisay some breathing room at 88-81 with 55 seconds remaining.

Two more layups by De La Torre cut the lead to 89-85 at the 35-second mark.

Lagura committed an unsportsmanlike foul on Dayumat with 8 seconds to go giving the BBC a golden opportunity to tie, but but Dayumat converted only 1 ft and a well covered Rico Cabato missed a triple as Rudcel Nonato 2 free throws iced the game with 3.5 seconds to go.

Hugnatan finished with 19 points, Lagura added 16 points, Sayon with 11, Ballo Allo had 10 while BBC was led by Cabato and Dayumat 16 points apiece De La Torre 14 and Jaranilla 13 Ryan Javellana and Sylvester Millevo with 8 and 10 points, respectively led Probac to a 48-35 halftime lead pulling away from a close 20-17 1st quarter lead.

Bon Bon Posecion 13 inside points and Gboy Biñas jumpers 8 points hardly made a dent on the lead of Probac in the 3rd quarter as Bobet Ganaban, John Villaroman and Ren Ren Lacson combined for 16 points as PRobac remained on top at 70-58.

In the payoff quarter even though Bapro opened with 7-0 run and the explosive Katsi Cadagat scored 5 straight points to cut the lead to 75-70 Javellana 5 straight points restored the lead back to 10.

Cadagat 8 straight points for Bapro cut the deficit anew to 82-78 with 1:38 left but a Javellana layup and Sherman Gonzalez putback extended the lead back to 8 with 46 seconds remaining.

Javellana topscored with 18 points, Carlo Diaz chipped in 14, Millevo 13 points and Gonzalez 10 points Cadagat had 18 points with 15 in the 4th, Posecion shot 13 points, Matt Deles 10 and Andrew Deles 8 points.

GT Net behind its running game led at halftime at 43-36 with Tubby Villanueva contributing 7 points, Tim Garrucho and Monroe Chua with 6 points apiece.

Julius Teruel fired 16 points in the 2nd quarter for Terra Dolce.

Terra Dolce erased the deficit and led in the 3rd quarter 57-55 behind Roger Montalbo pinpoint passes to Teruel and Rodriguez tallying10 and 5 points, respectively.

GT Net was scoreless for the last 2 minutes in the 3rd and their drought continued for 6 minutes in the 4th quarter.

GT Net finished with only 6 points in the quarter while Ralph Ong and Angel Rodriguez delivered 6 points apiece for Terra Dolce.

Teruel had a gamehigh 28 points, Rodriguez 11, Ralph Ong 10, Jason Ong 8, Roger Montalbo scored only 6 points but did a yeomans job both in the rebound and assist department.

Villanueva led GT Net with 12 points, Archie Co had 10, Tim Garrucho, Cris Vargas and Monroe Chua with 9 points.

Daniel Tan paced 4 other players in double digits with 20 points to give Foodman its 1st victory in the tourney.

Johann Villanueva and ton Ton Chua chipped in 13 points apiece while Biboy Uysang and Omar Galunan contributed 11 points, respectively. Romar Desusa spearheaded Cebu Sendai with 21 points, Carlo John Doblar added 15 points. Eduardo Ng had 10 points, Marvin Ortiz 9 points and Richard Uy with 8 points

It will be knockout Monday for Class A at TTHS Po Hang Gym.

In the 1st game 7 p.m. Red Phoenix will play team 3, with team 3 armed with a twice to beat advantage while Globe Asiatique La Salle will face team 4 or 5 for a 1 game knockout.

The winners will advance to the round robin semis.
