Sungduan: Cordillerans UAE

CORDILLERANS UAE, a group of Overseas Filipino Workers based in United Arab Emirates has just completed another meaningful mission lately.

That is raising the amount needed to purchase a generator which they will be donating to a hospital in the province of Abra.

This was made possible with the successful presentation of the Arya Cordillera 2018, a fund raising festivity that gathered a great number of Cordilleran OFWs at Swissotel, Al Ghurair, Deira, Dubai to enjoy the cultural presentations and variety show.

Cordillerans UAE President Marylin Aglano said the activity has started since 2008 as their way of giving back to the province where they came from.

Mary Jane Epi, the group secretary said Arya Cordillera 2018 completes the cycle of support they have provided with Ifugao as the first recipient. The province benefited from the school books which they donated.

In 2011, Mountain Province was also the beneficiary of Educational CDs, books, cabinets and tables for a day-care center in Bauko. In 2012 Kalinga was given a support for its rehabilitation facility, and Benguet received books for a day-care center in Atok.

The event highlighted the cultural presentation competition participated by the different groups representing the provinces in the region. The Kalinga group emerged as the winner in the contest where they flaunted the unique and beautiful culture and dances of their own province.

Cordillerans UAE Treasurer Norma Wandag said witnessing such beautiful gathering showcasing their own culture makes her appreciate more their own cultural heritage.

The program was complete with the wonderful line dance of some members and country songs from talented musicians whose songs touched the hearts of the spectators.

It’s amazing that despite their busy schedule, the Cordillerans OFWs are still able to organize a very significant event such as the Arya Cordillera which is not only a way of promoting our own culture but it is also an avenue where they can generate funds to help the needy community in our country. May they continue doing their meaningful works.
