QUESTIONS about President Rodrigo Duterte’s health were once again raised after he skipped four events at the 33rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit and Related Summits in Singapore.

For a major international summit where country leaders meet and discuss issues, it is just natural for some of Filipinos, especially those who are criticizing the President, to question his absence in some of the summit's events.

It is also natural for us to worry about his health considering his age and the amount of stress and pressure he is on in a daily basis.

The President later defended his actions stating, "What's wrong with my nap?"

The question posed by the President to reporters has a point. What is really wrong with our president taking a nap? He is human. With all due respect, he is also old. He needs his rest.

Since when did some people had the idea that when elected president of the republic, he or she can't get a good night's sleep or have a power nap? Power naps are actually highly encouraged as these have been proven to help improve productivity and reduce stress levels.

When a chief executive officer of a company or a humble janitor can take a sleep to escape the chaos around them, why can't the President have his nap?

Sometimes when our body says that it can't go on any further, we have to stop and allow ourselves to recover.

The president is not a machine whom we can allow to work 24/7. He also needs his rest just like many of us.
