DAVAO City’s pride, Poppert Bernadas, will be holding a one-night show here on December 1, from 6 p.m. at Apo View Hotel.
The Dabawenyo artist has been known for being part of Team Sarah during his stint in the Philippine franchise of the international singing tilt, “The Voice,” on the Kapamilya Network.
Apart from being an active singer with his group “The Ryan Cayabyab Singers,” Poppert has also been visible in theatre arts. In fact, he plays one of the main characters in the long-running theater show “Rak of Aegis.”
In an online interview on Tuesday, he shared how excited he is for this upcoming show.
“Intimate show lang naman ‘to, Ate, but, this is going to be a super special event for me,” he said.
The singer-actor narrated that “An Evening with Poppert” will be his tribute to his mother, who passed away earlier this year. Moreover, this is also a benefit show for the bed-ridden seniors of Barangay Talomo Proper, the place where he spent his childhood years.
Since his “The Voice” days in 2014, I have personally seen Poppert’s growth as a singer and actor. I have witnessed how he has used these gifts to make his mother proud.
When I interviewed him for the first time when he was still being coached by Sarah Geronimo, the first thing I observed was his love for his Mama.
“The reason why I joined ‘The Voice’ is for my Mama. Hindi madali ang
desisyon na ‘to because I’ve been part of a group (RCS) for seven years na and doing theater stuff for four years na. It’s for her kasi mga four months na s’ya nagda-dialysis, and when I asked for her opinion about joining ‘The Voice,’ walang dalawang isip. Sabi n’ya ‘Go na anak! bago ako mawala at least makita kita sa isang competition.’ So there, sumugal ako for her... At lalaban ako for her,” this loving son told me four years ago.
