A PRIVATE sponsor Davao will revive the Torotot Festival in New Year’s Eve this year.

As Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio continued to strictly impose the firecracker ban in Davao City, Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc. will revive the event that was shelved last New Year’s Eve due to the NCCC Mall fire incident last December 23, 2017.

Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc. corporate affairs manager Ben Sur said on Thursday, November 15, during the I-Speak media forum that it will be the first sponsorship of their company and they will make this year’s Torotot Festival bigger.

“Karong tuiga, we are going to make it bigger and atong gibutangan og dagko nga premyo (This year, we are going to make it bigger, with bigger prizes),” Sur said.

He also said that this year’s event will have three components on December 31, namely, the Giant Torotot competition, the Torotot-inspired costume competition and the Torotot group dance competition.

The prizes: P50,000 for the champion, P30,000 for the runner-up, P10,000 for third placer and P5,000 as consolation prize.

Deadlines of submission is set at 4 p.m. on December 4 p.m. Registration is free.

Meanwhile, event director Dan Salvaña said that they will present the proposal of the Torotot Festival to the Pasko Fiesta executive committee.

“Our purpose for sponsoring this event is to revive kasi we don’t have this last year. So baka naman ang isipin ng mga tao is wala na talaga to,” Salvaña said.

“Our message is maipakita natin na since banned ang [firecrackers], we could still have fun. Maingay, masaya ang mga taga-Davao even without firecrackers,” he added.
