Pasko de Oro events set on December 3

KAGAY-ANONS are all invited to witness and enjoy the events the City Government of Cagayan de Oro has prepared in celebrating this year's Yuletide season.

The Pasko de Oro 2018, now on its fourth year, will have five activities, which includes: the Paskorela, a "Dress Up your Own Motorela" competition; Pasko de Oro Parade; Bangga sa Daygon; Symphony of Lights and Christmas Bazaar.

All of the activities will be conducted on December 3, except for the Bangga sa Daygon, a choral competition participated by elementary school students from all over the city, which will happen on December 5 in SM City Cagayan de Oro.

According to Maico Alejandro Torres II of the City Tourism Office, the opening of this year's Pasko de Oro 2018 will start with a simultaneous performance of the bands of the participating elementary schools for the Pasko de Oro Parade and the showcasing of the decorated motorelas for the Paskorela competition.

He added that they are targeting six participants for the Pasko de Oro Parade and 20 contingents for the Paskorela.

"We're aiming to reach 20 contingents this year para at least mas taas og mas daghan ang among ma showcase nga rela," Torres said.

The parade, according to Torres, will begin at the Rodelsa Circle around 4:30 p.m. on December 3, going to Divisoria and will end in the City Hall in time for the launching of the city's Symphony of Lights.

The awarding ceremony for the Paskorela and Pasko de Oro Parade will also occur on the same day.

Torres said the winners of the same competitions will receive trophy and cash prizes.

Apart from the parade, the new addition to the annual events of Pasko de Oro, the Christmas Bazaar, will also commence on December 3 until January 6 at the Gaston Park near the City Hall.

The exhibitors for the bazaar are the beneficiaries of the livelihood projects of the Bottom-Up-Budgeting (BUB).

"Yung mga grantees ng livelihood program ng city, sila yung magpa-participate sa Christmas Bazaar," Torres said.

"Its in coordination with the City Poverty Reduction and Alleviation Committee. Sila yung one of the partners, sila yung ga-screen sa mga grantees sa mga projects sa mga livelihood," he added.

This year's budget for the Pasko de Oro 2018 amounted P150,000, according to Torres.

He also mentioned their plan to include a new event, a community-based Belen contest using recyclable materials, and to bring back the parol competition for next year's Pasko de Oro.
