THE base fare of the electronic jeepney (e-jeepney) that will start plying the streets of Lapu-Lapu City before the end of the year will be P6.50 for the first five kilometers and P.90 for the succeeding kilometer.

This was announced by Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTRB) 7 Assistant Director Reynaldo Elnar during the test drive on Thursday, Nov. 15.

The e-jeepney’s fully-charged battery consumes 26 kilowatts of electricity that translates to approximately P276 on the electric bill, based on the research conducted by Las Piñas-based Star 8 Green, which supplies the also solar-powered e-jeepney.

Leonardo Porton, a Star 8 technician, said the e-jeepney can travel between 120 and 150 kilometers with a maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour on a fully-charged battery.

He said the e-jeepney can carry up to 23 passengers. However, the LTFRB will not allow standing passengers.

Each unit will have a brushless electric fan, charging port for gadgets, Wi-Fi, GPS, advertising board, LED TV for advertisements and an automated per collection system (APCS).

Routes

Porton said the solar panel, which is located on the vehicle’s roof, will power all the gadgets inside, while the battery will run the e-jeepney.

Once the e-jeepney is fully operational, passengers will use a tap card that will be read by the APCS to collect their fare.

Meanwhile, Elnar said, aside from the e-jeepney traversing the circumferential highway, it will also have a route that will start at Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City and end in Cordova town, passing by Barangays Basak and Marigondon.

The circumferential highway follows M.L. Quezon Highway from Barangays Poblacion, Pajo, Pusok, Ibo, Buaya, Mactan, Maribago, Marigondon, Basik and back to Poblacion and vice versa.

Elnar said the National Government wants to ban multicabs and tricycles on highways by 2020 as part of the Department of Transportation’s jeepney modernization program. (from FVQ of SuperBalita Cebu)
