Health office warns public vs measles side effects

NEGROS Occidental Provincial Health Officer Ernell Tumimbang warned the public against the side effects and complications of measles such as meningitis and other deadly diseases.

He appealed to the public to have their children vaccinated, adding there’s an ongoing province-wide Supplemental Immunization Activity.

"We don't wait for them at the health centers, we go door to door to get our 90 target," Tumimbang said.

He said that measles cases in the whole country have increased in 2018.

Tumimbang also said they focus the vaccination on children because they are the most vulnerable to measles and that when they grow up, they could no longer contaminate or spread the virus.

"We suspect that the virus came from adults who were not vaccinated with measles during their childhood," Tumimbang said.

The door to door vaccination is conducted and given free to the public, he added.
