Zamboanga police hold gun licensing caravan

THE Police Regional Office (PRO) in Zamboanga Peninsula has launched a caravan to enable gun owners in the region to avail themselves of the Provisional License to Own and Possess Firearms (PLTOPF).

Superintendent Charlie Vete, Regional Civil Security Unit-9 (RCSU-9) chief, said the caravan is focused on Zamboanga del Norte province.

It started on Tuesday, November 13, in Sergio Osmeña town, followed on Wednesday in

Polanco; Thursday in Piñan; and Friday in Dapitan City.

Vete said the caravan will also be in Dipolog City, November 19; President Manuel Roxas, November 20; Manukan, November 21; Jose Dalman, November 22; Sindangan, November 23; Leon Postigo, November 26; Salug, November 27; Godod, November 28; and, Liloy, November 29.

Vete said the PLTOPF is issued to gun holders without License to Own and Possess

Firearms (LTOPF) but desires to avail of a transaction for renewal and transfer of firearms.

However, Vete said only gun owners whose expired licenses were issued before Republic Act 10591 took effect can avail of the PLTOPF.

R.A. 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation, was signed into law on May 29, 2013.

Vete said the PLTOPF is only a one-time offer. It is also intended for firearms renewal and or transfer and has a validity of nine months upon approval.

He said the requirements to apply for PFTOPF are the following: accomplished application form; any government-issued identification card or proof of billing indicating the complete address of the applicant; and, payment of P500 at any branch of the Land Bank of the Philippines.

He urged gun owners with expired licenses to avail of the services they render through the caravan. (SunStar Philippines)
