SOME 30 to 40 children with cancer patients at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) will benefit from the Holiday Gym & Spa (HGS) Christmas Run-All-You-Can set tomorrow, Sunday, at 5:30 a.m. in an out-and-back course from HGS along F. Torres Street, Davao City.

HGS sales and marketing officer Ted Uy, who was a guest in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao, said all proceeds will be donated to the Davao Children Cancer Fund, Incorporated also known as House of Hope.

“Last anniversary event dunay miapil nga 150 participants, gihatag namo diretso more than P20,000 sa House of Hope (In our last anniversary event, there were 150 participants so we were able to donate over P20,000 to the House of Hope),” Uy said, adding that some HGS members then signed up and paid the registration even without running while others paid more than the amount of the registration fee.

Categories entered are five kilometer (5K) with four straw loops equivalent to one gym pass; 10K with eight straw loops for two gym passes; 15K with 12 straw loops for four gym passes and 20K with 16 straw loops for seven gym passes.

Christmas Run-All-You-Can registration fees are P175 for individuals and P450 for group. The group entry will receive 15 gym passes.

Roy Cresencio Linao, Jr. of House of Hope, meanwhile, thanked HGS and other sponsors for their constant support to the children with cancer.

Linao said said children with cancer need continuous treatments and costs for these are expensive.

“Dili pwede maputol ang ilang tambal (Their medicines could not be stopped nor delayed),” Linao said, adding that most of the patients aged 18 years old and below and are often accompanied by their parents, come from as far as Cotabato City, South Cotabato, Agusan and other parts of Mindanao.

House of Hope, thus, serves as halfway house for these patients and their families.
