Velez: Senior moments

STAN Lee, creator of fantastic heroes and universes known as Marvel that captured our hearts and imaginations, died this week at the age of 95.

Juan Ponce Enrile, creator of fake history, a fake ambush and architect of Martial Law that tortured and captured thousands, is still alive and running for the Senate at age 94.

Another senior politician, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, is convicted this week on seven counts of graft. On the night the court made this decision, the 89-year old partied like there’s no tomorrow.

Few days after her partying, Imelda excused herself from appearing in court, saying this is doctor’s orders to avoid being stressed out. She was stressed from over-partying.

Enrile, who was detained recently for corruption pork barrel but put under hospital arrest, said “You’re learning fast.”

Imelda is guilty, but the Philippine National Police could not arrest her. She is too old, they said. Her age is estimated at $ 5 billion.

Political prisoners like 69-year old Vicente Ladlad, who was arrested last week, said, “Kayo naman dito Madam.”

Aesop has a good quote for this, “We hang the petty thieves and appoint great ones in public office.”

The PNP cannot arrest the First Lady. The PNP cannot go after smugglers. PNP officers are caught on rape charges. It looks just like the script of the hit TV series Ang Probinsyano.

And they blame Ang Probinsyano for their bad image. They could have said their erring forces are trying to audition for the series.

CHED drops Filipino subjects from general curriculum. CHED said teaching Filipino again in college is redundant. Student activists said, miscellaneous fees are redundant, why not drop them too?

Filipino language out from the curriculum. Korean language in. P**yeta. It’s just like real life, Pinoys leave the country and we K-pop and Korean garbage comes in.

***

The Filipino language is colorful and vibrant. Just listen to how the President speaks.

In this day and age, the most influential book is neither a book nor knowledge. It’s called Facebook.

President Duterte skipped some meetings during the ASEAN in Singapore. His spokesperson said the president needed a power nap. They could have simply said he’s having his senior moment.

One wonders why politicians here keep coming back in power. The late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago reminds us. “Anong tawag ‘pag nagtapon ka ng basura sa dagat? Sagot: Pollution. Ano naman ang tawag kapag tinapon mo sa dagat ang mga pulitikong kurakot? Sagot: Solution”
