DAVAO City Councilor Marissa Abella said farmers can now increase agricultural trade through downloading RiceUp, an agricultural trading app for farmers.
The city councilor on food and agriculture underscored the importance of using technology in developing current agricultural activities in the city, especially for Mindanaon farmers.
RiceUp for Filipino Farmers, a downloadable mobile application that will serve as a “virtual middleman” based on its technology. It enables farmers to update their inventory of harvests in real time so consumers will have choices, while their clients can send them feedback.
RiceUp is available on Google Play.
The agricultural app aims to maximize the Filipino farmers’ profit margins. From an average monthly income of only P4,576, as the prospectus indicates, RiceUp intends to bring it up to P13,000 monthly.
“In this way pwede na na walay middlemen sa economic trade sa mga farmers kay sila one of the reasons pud ngano maglisud ang mga farmers na makaginansya og mas dako (In this way, we can avoid middlemen in the economic trade between farmers because they are one of the reasons why our farmers are having a hard time earning bigger profit),” Abella said in her speech during the National Tech4Ed Awards 2018 on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the Royal Mandaya Hotel, Davao City.
Abella added that farmers must now be adept with the current trends of technology in order to increase more profit. She also said she continues to encourage farmers through seminars and trainings in using the agricultural app.
