THE Department of Tourism (DOT) is set to launch in December a food and travel festival in Davao City to push Philippines as a viable culinary destination.

Dubbed as “Kain Na!” the fair, which will be slated on December 7 until 9, 2018 at the Abreeza Ayala Mall, is seen to create awareness and interest on Filipino cuisine and tourism destinations.

“It is a celebration that will feature local chefs, local dishes, local products (agricultural, arts, and crafts), and farm tourism sites with the end view of promoting the country as a center of food and gastronomy,” Department of Tourism-Davao officer-in-charge head Zuhairah Abas-Diamla said.

Exhibitors from regional farm tourism associations, DOT-accredited farm tourism operators, farm cooperatives, tour operators, academe, and partner agencies will participate and present goods and services during the three-day event.

She shared that on the first day there will be a “degustacion” wherein organizers will be inviting local chefs that will be highlighting regional food. She said this is a good opportunity to showcase another facet of the Philippines as a destination.

President Rodrigo Duterte and tourism secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat are expected to grace the event.

The event which is in partnership with the Ayala Malls will also feature presentations by relevant practitioners and industry stakeholders on Best Practices in Farm Tourism, New Agricultural Technologies, and its contribution to sustainable development.
