Cash-rich Oro chess tourney on Dec. 8-9

OVER P100,000 in total cash prizes will be up for grabs in the 2nd Mayor Oscar S. Moreno Inter-Team Open Chess Tournament on December 8 to 9 at the Green Lane 2nd floor of Limketkai Mall here.

The two-day seven-round Swiss system tourney is expected to draw a strong cast of entries from all over the Visayas and Mindanao.

It guarantees P50,000, P25,000, P15,000, P10,000 and P5,000 to the top-5 team finishers.

Six to 10th placers will get P3,000 each also with trophies.

The top-3 high school and elementary parti cipants will receive P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000 apiece.

“Pasalamat ko’g dako kang mayor (Moreno) nga aduna gihapoy pamasko nga tournament atong mga chess players sa Mindanao. Bibo na sab `ta karong December,” said event organizer Johnnel Balquin, who along with the finest woodpushers in Cagayan de Oro such as NM Levi Mercado, Bryan Jose and Nazario Ubanan, travelled all the way to Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur on Saturday for the cash-rich Tatluhan Chess Tournament.

Dubbed as Mayor Jojo Palma and Atty. Titing Albaño Chess Cup, the NCFP-sanctioned tourney in Aurora assured the top-3 individual finishers with P40,000, P30,000 and P20,000 cash.
