DBTC, Unit 6 keep title chase alive

DON Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) got an easy win and survived another day, while Unit 6 also moved on to the third day in the football competition of the Cebu City Olympics.

DBTC, the defending champion who lost to University of San Jose-Recelotos (USJ-R), 3-0, in the first day won via forfeit after Unit 7, represented by St. Theresa’s College decided not to play.

On the other hand, after losing to the University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department (USC-BED) in its opening game, Unit 6 recovered with a close 1-0 win over Abellana National School, which is eliminated after suffering its second loss.

Today, Unit 6 represented by players from Paref-Springdale, Bright Academy and Lahug, will take on DBTC in the first game at 9 a.m. In the second game, favorites USJ-R and USC-BED will face off for the first finals spot.

The loser of the USJ-R and USC-BED match will take on the winner of the Unit 6 vs. DBTC match for the second finals spot.

In the elementary division, DBTC routed Lahug, 5-0, while St. Theresa’s College also won easily over Unit 5, 8-1. STC and DBTC will face off today for the first finals spot, while Lahug and Unit 5 will play for survival.

The winner between Lahug and Unit 5 will face the loser of the STC vs. DBTC match for the second finals spot.

Meanwhile, tournament manager Danny Ramos clarified that the first team to qualify for the finals won’t enjoy a twice-to-beat edge unlike in previous editions. ML
