Tell it to SunStar: On the search for UP Cebu chancellor, 2

(Continued from yesterday)

I AM the only chancellor also who gave our student organizations funding for their activities, except that this was stopped last year because we had to study our fund availability, but we are reviving it this year.

So, they say that I am anti-student? I do not know what is their meaning for such a term.

By the way, the current research centers being referred to are the center for environmental informatics (this is responsible for helping the landslide-hit City of Naga in its search and retrieval operation using displacement analysis); fire check; cyber security research and extension center; regional center for molecular diagnostics and research; geo-mapping and nutrient analysis; and students-teachers innovation and incubation for technologies commercialization hub or STIITCH.

May I also add, in response to the Nov. 12, 2018 article of SunStar Cebu regarding UP Cebu titled “Corro was handpicked by PAEP.” This is false because when I came to UP Cebu in 2012, it was the UP Cebu alumni that nominated me. I did not know the then President Alfredo E. Pascual (PAEP). Besides, the deanship/chancellorship goes through a process where a search committee is in charge of making a report about the nominees. And it is the members of the Board that elect the dean or chancellor.

PAEP was just one vote in the 11-member Board of Regents (BOR) which is headed by the Commission on Higher Education chair.

Regarding, Ms. Ligaya Rabago’s statement that she was made to pay for the use of the Performing Arts Hall (PAH), what she did not mention is that her use was initially intended for an income-generating project or IGP and that initially she failed to justify that it was for a cause so they were charged rent. However, she was later refunded because her activity was subsidized using UP Cebu arts and culture funds. So she did not really spend for the use of PAH. --Liza Corro, UP Cebu Chancellor
