Arroyo visits Batangas for Luzon Urban Beltway tour (2:16 p.m.)

MANILA -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday visited the province of Batangas for the launch of Luzon Urban Beltway (LUB) tour under the Super Region program.

Hundreds of students and teachers at the University of Batangas are waiting for the President to personally launch the LUB Super region tour, which is in accordance with her legacy campaign months before she steps down from office.

The LUB Super Region is composed of the southern part of Central Luzon, the entire Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and half of Mimaropa region, specifically the lands of Mindoro and Marinduque. These provinces are the said to be bases of the country's industry, manufacturing, trade and commerce.

LUB is one of the super regions created by the President in 2006 pursuant to Executive Order 561. Other four super regions are North Luzon Agribusiness Mindanao, Cyber Corridor, Tourism Central Philippines, and Agribusiness Mindanao.

After the launching ceremony, Arroyo will proceed to the Batangas Seaport to conduct a windshield inspection of the completed Batangas Port Development Project.

This is an undertaking aimed at converting the Batangas Port into a major international container terminal. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
