Don’t drink and drive, motorists told

THE Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) reiterated its call to the motorists to never drive vehicles and motorcycles while under the influence of intoxicating liquors.

This, after the BCPO has recorded series of road accidents due to drunkenness from September to November, 2018.

Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, public information officer of BCPO, said on November 15 that they have recorded three cases of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide; 23 cases of physical injuries; and six cases of damage to properties in almost three months.

“We want motorists to always bear in mind his safety, the safety of his passengers, and other motorists on the road to prevent accidents,” he added.

The BCPO is also strictly implementing Republic Act 4136 or the “Land Transportation and Traffic Code” and other traffic-related city ordinances.

Tricycles, pedicabs, motorcycles, and bicycles should always keep right or take the outer lane.

“This is also to prevent untoward incidents on the road involving these types of vehicles,” Gabana said.

Meanwhile, crimes in Bacolod reduced to 24 percent or 25 cases from November 1 to 14, 2018.

Based on the records of the BCPO, 79 incidents were reported in 2018, compared to 2017 with 104 cases, covering the same period.

For index crimes or crimes against person or property, incidents decreased by 50 percent or 20 cases from 40 incidents in 2017 to 20 cases in 2018.

Physical injuries topped the eight focus crimes with eight cases; followed by theft with six incidents; robbery with five cases, and murder with one case.

No cases of homicide, robbery, carnapping, and motornapping were recorded in two weeks.

Non-index crimes in 2018 totaled to 59 cases against 64 incidents in 2017, with a drop of 7.8 percent or five cases.

Gabana said the average monthly crime rate decreased by 24 percent from 35.78 in 2017 to 27.18 in 2018.

Gabana added that Bacolod City is generally peaceful with no significant incidents recorded.(GYM)
