Five things to let go of today

Five things to let go of today

WE can never have enough stuff in our lives. Go and take one look at your house and tell me if it doesn’t answer that single question. We own more than what we can keep and it’s cluttering our home already. Sometimes, we even refuse to let go of the many things in our home because we think they’re still as useful as on the day we first brought them home. But we thought wrong all along. Not only do we have to deal with all the useless stuff cramped in our home, but there are relationships equally useless that we must learn to let go of too.

Nov. 18 is Useless Stuff Day. There’s no better day than today to let all of these “useless things” go, and here are five ways you can do it.

It’s time for a closet cleanup

You have to start somewhere and your closet is your best choice if you’re quite overwhelmed with all the cleaning you have to do. Dig into the deepest corners of your closet for clothes you rarely use or have never worn for ages. You can pack them in boxes for discarding or donating. But the latter is a great choice if everything’s still in great condition. Throwing away clothes might just be a waste and will only fill our already towering landfills. This way, you can help both people in need and Mother Earth.

Get rid of textbooks collecting dust on your shelves

It’s time to let go of the old textbooks that are only sitting around on your shelves because the only purpose they have left in your life is collecting dust. Textbooks from back when you were in school need to find a new home. Don’t even think twice about letting them go, except when you find reference books. You can either donate them to foster homes or give them away to your younger cousins.

Throw away old furniture and appliances

What’s the point of even keeping worn-out furniture and appliances when they don’t function anymore? They’re only taking up space in your home that you could use for a better purpose. It might be hard to let go of them especially when they’re expensive, but don’t you think they have already served their purpose for many years? Throwing away old furniture and appliances might cost you great time and money, but nothing beats the feeling when you’ve thrown away garbage and freed up space in your home.

Delete old files from your computer

You not only need to get rid of physical things, but it’s good to have a files sweeping as well. Old files also take huge memory space from your computer and the only way you can find a solution for this is to delete your oldest files. I’m pretty sure you’ve done plenty of versions for your thesis back in college, so why not start from there and leave only the approved one for memory’s sake? Photos from long ago that you wish to delete forever, go ahead and press that delete button with no hesitation.

End a toxic relationship with a friend

Nothing’s more useless than a toxic friendship. It will only cause you unnecessary stress and a migraine. Stop wasting your time on people who don’t deserve your love and attention because the only thing you’re getting out of the relationship are gray hairs. We’re soon welcoming a brand-new year and it’s high time you ended the relationship instead of bringing it with you in the next chapter. I’m sure you’re not blind enough to realize that you’re in a toxic friendship, right? Don’t be afraid and set yourself free.
