Cebuano ‘Golden Champion’ home for mall show

AFTER being hailed as the first-ever champion of GMA Network’s “The Clash,” Golden Cañedo was finally back home in Cebu last Nov. 16 to treat her fans to a Kapuso Fans Day at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Known to be the youngest among other “clashers,” Golden admitted that she felt nervous every time she performed on stage knowing that she was competing with experienced singers. She considered the other contestants as family but whenever they’re on stage, they were always reminded of the sole reason why they joined.

“It reached a point when I went down to the ‘bottom two.’ It was then when I really felt I needed to be more serious. What was on my mind that time was that I might already be going back to Cebu,” she laughed upon sharing her unforgettable experience in the show.

The 16-year-old singer said winning the competition was a life changer—she never goes out without putting on some make-up now and a lot of people already recognize her. Golden took home P1,000,000, a brand-new car, and a house and lot. Still, she recognizes her role in the family as the breadwinner.

Just recently, she inked a contract with GMA Records and will launch her new single entitled “Ngayon” on Nov. 23. Currently, she is a regular on GMA’s newest musical-variety program “Studio 7” which airs every Sunday evening on GMA 7.

Back then, she used to be a student during the day and a singer at night joining amateur singing contests. Now, the budding artist said that though she would still find time to continue her studies, she is putting career as her top-most priority. Kyline Alcantara and Miguel Tanfelix are the personalities she hopes to work with someday. Renowned singers Morisette Amon and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid are among the artists she looks up to. (S)
