SUNTRUST Properties, Incorporated (SPI) vows to continue supporting the country’s top mixed martial arts group Team Lakay.

During the topping off ceremony of Suntrust 88 in Gibraltar, Baguio City on November 11, Suntrust president Harry Paltongan turned over P721,000 to Team Lakay after its golf fund raiser at the no. 1 golf course in the country, Sherwood Hills Golf Club on October 17.

“We are now going to turn over to them P721,000 to further upgrade their gym, not only for them but to enable for them to invite more enthusiasts, more youth to join this martial arts competition in sports, rather than to engage in vices,” Paltongan said.

“It is like a contribution to nationhood to support them and today, we are very happy to know the gym was awarded as the gym of the year and we feel we were a part of that,” added Paltongan, referring to the team who bagged the Gym of the Year Award in the recent 2018 Global Martial Arts Awards.

“Ever since we became friends with Team Lakay, we saw the value of what they were doing not just for Baguio but for the entire country,” he added.

The cheque was received by the Coach Mark Siangao.

Sangiao thanked the support which will be a big boost for the improvement of the gym, for athletes, trainers, and future champions. Siangao cited despite the limited resources, the team was able to produce six world champions.

“We are very lucky because, a while ago we were talking about the gym. Ang liit ng gym natin and we are awarded as gym of the year pero sabi namin kanina we are planning to transfer to a bigger gym,” Sangiao said.

Team Lakay Fighter Eduard Folayang recalled hindrances including the poor state of their gym but however didn’t get in their way to achieve awards with the hard work put into by the team.

“This is what we love to do. We acknowledge the support of our partners, Suntrust, hopefully we promise to do more for upcoming martial artists to rise,” adds Folayang.

Following the turnover of sponsorship to Team Lakay, a medical and dental mission was held on site 300 workers of Suntrust.

As part of its 21st year, a mini Olympics will also be held for some 500 workers of Suntrust to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship.
