WHENEVER there’s heavy downpour, the pathways in Sitio Lupa, Barangay Sapangdaku in Cebu City become impassable.
According to Delfin Reyes, president of Lupa Hills Homeowners’ Association, the runoff water washes out the foot paths, making it difficult for them to pass through.
“Naa na gud mga nadisgrasya kay dangog na kaayo ang agi-anan,” he said.
Because of this, the association sought City Hall’s help in fixing the drainage system in their area.
Reyes lamented that the drainage lines might be faulty since they’ve been suffering for years already.
He said they did not ask for help before because they had mitigating measures.
“The landslide in Naga pushed us to ask for help,” Reyes said.
Responding to the request, the City Council asked the Department of Engineering and Public Works and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office to immediately inspect the area, and to prepare the program of works and estimates for the repair works needed.
In a letter to Councilor Jerry Guardo dated Oct. 29, Reyes said the area is considered a “danger zone.”
“This is because of its terrain that is mountainous and hilly. There were occurrences of landslides in some areas already,” wrote Reyes.
Guardo said at least 30 households are located along the riverbank. (RTF)
