'Samuel' intensifies; storm signal raised in 12 VisMin areas

TROPICAL Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) Number 1 has been raised over 12 provinces in Visayas and Mindanao as Tropical Depression Samuel intensified Monday morning, said the state weather bureau in its 11 a.m. advisory.

Areas affected are Southern Leyte, Leyte, southern portion of Samar and Eastern Samar, Bohol, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Island Province, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin.

Fisherfolk and those with small seacraft in areas under storm signal are advised not to venture out.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Caraga, Eastern Visayas and provinces of Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Bohol, and Cebu.

Southern Leyte and Bohol may experience heavy rains, which may trigger flooding and landslides.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said that TCWS 1 may also be raised in Biliran, Cebu, Siquijor, and Negros provinces.

The tropical depression was forecast to move toward the vicinity of Hugpa, Southern Leyte Wednesday morning, November 21.

It is likely to slowly intensify and could become a tropical storm by early Tuesday morning, November 20, added Pagasa.

"Samuel" has a maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometer per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph.

It is moving northwest at 15 kph, Pagasa said.
