Capitol employee tests positive for drug use

MISAMIS Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano on Monday, November 19, confirmed a capitol employee under casual status was tested positive for drug use and is likely to lose his job.

Emano said out of the 45 workers who underwent the unannounced random drug test administered by the anti-narcotics agency last November 12, only one was found to be using the dangerous drugs.

The governor said the male employee who was tested positive for drug use was assigned at the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Emano said he already directed the provincial administrator not to renew the contract of the worker.

"We have the right to terminate and not to renew his contract. So karon pa lang giingnan na nako and atong administrator not to renew his contract labi na kung mogawas na ang result sa confirmatory test," Emano said.

But, if ever a regular employee is tested positive for drug use, he will have to undergo rehabilitation before dismissal based on the guidelines from the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

"Naay bag-ong balaod sa CSC nga medyo komplikado kay kung ang regular employee mag-positibo ipaagi sa daw sa rehabilitation ayha matangtang," Emano added.

The capitol's top official said the provincial government is spending nearly half million pesos for the random drug testing for its employees and it will never stop until it yielded negative results.

He said the PHO worker is the fourth employee who was tested positive during the surprise drug test.

"Ika-upat nani nga nag-positibo katong uban natangtang nato. Hangtod nga dili makakuha og negative result ang drug test dili kita moundang sa pagpahigayon niini," Emano said.
