MisOr braces for tropical depression ‘Samuel’

THE disaster office in Misamis Oriental is bracing for a weather disturbance that will bring moderate to heavy rains this week as Tropical Depression (TD) "Samuel" affects this part of the country.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) placed the province under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.1.

As of 11:30 a.m., Monday, November 19, TD Samuel was located at 605 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur and may intensify into a tropical storm before it possibly makes landfall in Siargao, Dinagat Islands, on Tuesday, November 20.

The state weather bureau said TD Samuel may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday, November 23.

Fernando Dy Jr., chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said small seacraft were advised not to sail from Balingoan town port to Camiguin as of 11:44 a.m., Monday, due to rough seas brought about by the present weather condition.

Dy said a blue alert status was raised all over the province.

He also said Governor Yevgeny Emano has declared the suspension of classes in pre-school level in both public and private schools until Pagasa lifts the storm warning signal for the province.

"All heavy equipment units and operators and drivers are already on standby and pre-positioned in strategic areas. All personnel are on standby," Dy said.
