CHINESE President Xi Jinping arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City before noon Tuesday, November 20, for his two-day state visit in the country, upon the invitation of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Xi's arrival in Manila marks the first state visit of a Chinese president to the Philippines in 13 years.

The Chinese leader was expected to grace the wreath-laying rites at Rizal Park in Manila at 4:15 p.m. He would then proceed to MalacaƱan Palace, where he would be welcomed by Duterte.

After the welcome ceremony, Dutete and Xi would go to the Palace's Reception Hall for the signing of guest book.

Duterte would then accompany Xi at Palace's State Dining Room for a photo opportunity and expanded bilateral meeting.

At 5:35 p.m., the two would witness the signing of several agreements that are expected to benefit both the Philippines and China.

The signing would be followed by joint press statements and restricted meeting of the two leaders.

A state banquet hosted by Duterte would also be held at Palace's Rizal Hall at 7:15 p.m.

Before returning home on Wednesday, November 21, Xi would meet Senate President Vicente Sotto III and House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The Chinese leader was also scheduled to meet with leaders of the Filipino-Chinese Community in Taguig after his meeting with Sotto and Macapagal-Arroyo. (SunStar Philippines)
