THE House of Representatives has designated Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Party-list Representative Jericho Nograles, brother of former Davao 1st District Representative Karlo Nograles, as the Legislative Caretaker for the First District of Davao City.
This, after President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Karlo as Cabinet Secretary replacing former Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco who resigned to run for Bohol governor.
House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo appointed Jericho through a memorandum dated November 15.
"In the interest of the people of the 1st District of Davao City, the Honorable Jericho Jonas B. Nograles is hereby designated as legislative caretaker of the 1st District of Davao City effective immediately," read memorandum No. 17-192.
Jericho is also the legislative caretaker of the 1st District of Sulu.
He thanked Arroyo for the trust and confidence given to him. He said that although he is running anew as PBA Party-list nominee, he will make sure that all the commitments made by his brother for the DavaoaeƱos will be fulfilled.
"Even before the appointment of my brother as Cabinet Secretary, I have always served the First District of Davao City, so I'm really happy that I was chosen by Speaker Arroyo and my colleagues as the legislative caretaker of my home district. Even with only a few months left before the election season, there's still a lot to be done for the District and I'm fully committed to fulfill this new mandate," Nograles said.
House Majority Leader Rolando Andaya Jr. said the House will soon name the lawmaker that will be the next head of the appropriations panel. (SunStar Philippines)
