IN A bid to provide financial help to the schools participating in the national journalism competition on December 5, Cherry May Diango, a zumba instructor and a teacher of the Department of Education (DepEd)-Northern Mindanao, has organized a zumba for a cause.

In partnership with the Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan School of Education and the DepEd-Northern Mindanao, the Saya-One! A Dance for a Cause is a fund-raising event with the journalism regional qualifiers of the division of Cagayan de Oro City as the beneficiaries, according to Diango.

“And also one of my beneficiaries is my former instructor at Xavier University School of Education, Kathleen Mallorca Morales, who is undergoing chemotherapy because she had breast cancer,” she added.

The zumba party, Diango said, is not only to raise money but also to provide relief to teachers who are stressed from doing loads of work and paperwork.

“Since I am a zumba instructor, it is very easy for me to encourage people to participate, especially that I have friends who are avid zumba goers. And also, I want to provide an opportunity for my co-teachers, my colleagues in DepEd, that they will be able to experience what zumba party is all about,” Diango said.

“Yung mga teachers ngayon (The teachers now) are very stressed. We have loads of work, paperwork and everything. I think it would be a good time also for the teachers to unwind and give themselves an interest in doing some exercise, to do zumba,” she added.

The registration fee for zumba goers will cost P150; while for the public and private school teachers, they will only need to pay P100.

“The P20 will go to the school fund or the teachers’ club fund of each school and the P50 will go to the journalism fund so they could use it on December 5,” Diango said, adding that the rest of the money will be used to pay their expenses.

Saya-One! A Dance for a Cause will be held on November 25 at Xavier University Gym at 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. For those who are interested to join, you can contact Diango via her mobile number: 0997-886-9625.
