Doctors Without Borders brings stories from the ground to Manila exhibit

MANILA -- International medical humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, is set to host a week-long walk-through photo exhibit from November 23 to 29 at Greenhills Promenade in San Juan, Manila.

With a collection of specially-curated photographs and a series of inspiring stories from the ground, “Stand In The Gap: A Walk-Through Exhibit” seeks to showcase the work that MSF does as a global movement that delivers emergency aid and medical care to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, exclusion from healthcare, and natural disasters.

Opening ceremonies begin on November 23 at 5 p.m., followed by the #AskMSF Facebook Live event at 6:30 p.m. MSF Hong Kong President Dr. Morpheus Causing and Head of Mission of MSF in the Philippines Shinjiro Murata will be present, along with several MSF field workers.

The exhibit is open to the public and admission is free.

Since 1984, the team has been responding to crises in the Philippines. After Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) tore through the islands of Leyte, Samar and Panay in 2013, MSF responded with healthcare services almost immediately.

Over 200 aid experts flew into the disaster zone, including doctors, nurses, surgeons, logisticians, water and sanitation experts, and psychologists.

At the height of the conflict in Marawi City in 2017, the organization provided psychosocial services to some affected evacuees, as well as Wash (water, sanitation and hygiene) response. MSF is also in partnership with a local non-government organization, Likhaan, providing access to sexual and reproductive health services in Tondo, Manila.

Bringing impartial, independent, and neutral assistance to people who need it most, Doctors Without Borders received a Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.
