THE management of Philex Mining Corporation assured safety protocols are now being studied after an accident inside its underground tunnel in Padcal, Camp 3, Tuba, Benguet.
Lawyer Ed Aratas of Philex said the company is set to review their standard operating procedures to ensure safety of its workers and similar accident won’t happen in the future.
This, after a miner died when he was allegedly buried with boulders due to blasting activity at level 798 ML Breaker PL 13-14 underground of the mining company in the morning of November 17.
In a spot report submitted to Chief Inspector James Acod, of the Tuba Municipal Police Station, the victim was identified as Victor Denis Quines, 3 –year–old, married, of Piminggan, Tuba.
Initial investigation revealed the victim was on duty when the accident happened.
Underground miners immediately rescued the victim who was rushed to the Philex Santo Niño hospital at about 10:35 a.m. but was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Jonathan Ventinilla.
“We have already answered for the funeral and burial expenses for Mr.Victor Quines who’s body now lie in state at their residence at Piminggan. Philex will be committing twice the value of our employee’s insurance to be given to the family,” Aratas added.
Aratas meanwhile said the investigation is still ongoing as to what transpired before the underground accident assisted by the Mines Safety Bureau.
“Since Philex is an EMS (Emergency Mine Safety) certified company, we will again review our standard operating procedures to live up to our company’s certification,” added Aratas.
