THE Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry proposes to establish a Halal Food Street in the city to attract more tourists.

DCCCII president Arturo M. Milan said in an interview Wednesday, November 21, that they are eyeing Quezon Boulevard as the site of the food street since there is a large number of Muslims living nearby.

He also cited the constant stream of Muslim tourists into the city.

"Pag ma-develop na nimo into a Halal Food Street then they will have already natural market (If the place be developed into a Halal Food Street, then they have already the natural market)," Milan said.

Milan said the stalls or restaurants should be clean and the city can help by granting business permits in the area to make it more attractive.

"Once they say na gina-develop ni siya then ma-encourage pud ang mga local investors to upgrade their restaurants and eateries in that area, (Once the area is being developed then local investors would be encouraged to upgrade their restaurants and eateries),” Milan said.

Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) head Generose Tecson said Wednesday that there are no plans yet to develop the project but they welcome the initiative of the Davao chamber.

They also have to check with Davao City Planning Development Office regarding the suitability of the area.
