Gines: Coach Ranel Muñoz: Building better bodies and lives

WITH decades of experience in sports and fitness, Ranel Muñoz pursues an undying passion to help individuals obtain their personal goals toward living a healthy lifestyle.

The 43-year-old Kapampangan coach leads by example, always guiding others to find a balance in the demands of challenges of life, through his homegrown gym called Quantum Fitness Center, located in the City of San Fernando.

Here, his philosophy is simple: Make a serious commitment. He take this mantra by heart, only accepting clients who are really committed to achieve healthier mind and body.

Some would call Ranel’s venture unconventional, but he’s not scared of the risks of being “too tough” as a gym owner and trainer.

“When you go here, you must have the willingness to follow our guidelines and fitness programs that we strictly implement. What we want our members to adopt is a sense of discipline, which is very important if you want to achieve optimal results,” he said.

“We know that some are not ready to accept such training and rules, but it is what it is here at Quantum Fitness Center. Our niche is for those who also share our vision of pursuing fitness in the long-term and with commitment,” he added.

He then shared that what sets his gym apart from others is that he offers a personalized, smart workout plan that is designed depending on one’s fitness objectives.

“It’s the reason why I put up this gym. I got frustrated seeing fitness centers here in Pampanga that boasts of advanced equipment and amenities but not essential training programs which is what people actually need,” he relayed.

“What clients really need is direction and affirmation, and that’s what trainers can actually provide. Unfortunately, most gyms around would put additional cost for trainers. This set up frustrates me,” he continued.

Distressed with the kind of concept where people need to pay extra for trainers and training programs, Ranel decided to open his own gym where members sign up for an all-in gym experience without shelling bucks for what he believes should be free of charge.

“My aspiration is to really help members by outlining specific and appropriate plan and guiding them throughout the process. I am not here for profit, what I want is to help people with my expertise,” he stressed.

Moreover, the enthusiastic coach highlighted that at Quantum Fitness Center, you have to work your way through to finally get your desired figure. There’s no shortcut to a body worth having, hence he decided to not promote gym equipment that encourages one to be passive.

“I removed the treadmills and stationary bikes. It’s a waste of time. These are inefficient tools and does not actually help you attain your fitness goals. What you need are weight lifting exercises and total body workouts,” he said.

Speaking of the said routines, trust the certified fitness pro. Though he would never boast, Ranel holds the most impressive resume of a professional fitness trainer, having exposed to world-class trainers and given incredible opportunity to work for various local and international fitness centers in Metro Manila and abroad.

Meanwhile, as an athlete since the tender age of 12, Ranel continues to fulfill his love for sports, through coaching and conditioning younger breed of players whatever their sports may be.

As a martial artist with numerous accolades in Taekwondo and Karate, Ranel continues to explore and expand his inclination to martial arts. In fact, just last month, he was one of the three Filipinos who was able to train Haidong Gumdo, a martial art that originated during B.C 27 and A.D 668 in the ancient Korean country called Koguryo.

“I got interested with this lost Korean martial art and was privileged to personally train with the Haidong Gumdo masters in Korea, including World Haidong Gumdo Federation Head Master Sang Hyun Han, to whom I am very much thankful for. I saw his perseverance, effort, and love for Haidong Gumdo. It was an awakening experience and he has taught me everything I need to learn about the sword-based martial art and its principles like righteousness and being responsible,” he noted.

“As its pioneer here in the country and the North and Central Luzon Head of the Philippines Haidong Gumdo Association, I am very excited to introduce it first here in Pampanga and the rest of the region. I am looking foward to promoting its practice that is not only focused on self-defense, but also urges one to become more accountable of his actions and decisions in life. And I believe that is my calling, to not only help build better bodies but also better lives,” he concluded.

Quantum Fitness Center is located at the 3rd Floor of A&P Bldg. Lazating Boulevard, City of San Fernando, Pampanga. For more information, call 0927 218 5528.
