Pangan: Entry of new players needed

THE Udenna Group of Davao-based ultra-rich businessman Dennis Uy which partnered with China Telecoms to win a provisional go-signal to be the country's third telco player, is a welcome sign of progress and openness to better change.

The scheme is meant to break the duo-poly of telecom giants PLDT-Smart and Globe Telecom, an Ayala group. This is a good scheme to improve telecommunication in the country and to enhance the speed of internet services which has brought the country to the bottom of the race for speedier Internet, and by extension, cable connections.

Locally, there is the Converge Fiber X which boasts of modern fiber optics connection, subterranean, that is, which is aimed at getting clearer and more defined images in the customers' television sets and apps. It is touted as high definition degree of reception, to the delight of viewers.

On the supply of water, Mabalacat City should welcome the entry of new players in the supply of potable water to households.

One such player wanting to enter the city's water supply is Prime Water and it is for the best interest of the city and water consumers that it should take over the operations, management and assets of the Mabalacat City Water District.

Prime Water is well-organized and has sizeable assets, enough to build infrastructure to improve further the dispensation of water services to several thousand consumers in the city.

Reportedly, the City Council of Mabalacat has acted favorably to the proposal of Prime Water to be good substitute for Mabalacat City Water District. By all means, give the franchise and permit to operate to Prime Water, a good alternative indeed to the present water provider! The city deserves a good firm, sentiments for the old one notwithstanding.

Whatever opposition to the entry of Prime Water is interposed, this could be solved by weighing the good points it can provide that Mabalacat City Water District can't.

Foremost is the welfare of the consumers or concessionaires, no more, no less.

Another bone of contention is the prospect of welcoming another worthy player to provide uninterrupted electric service, a good alternative to the present supplier, the Pampanga II Electric Cooperative or PELCO II.

Mabalacat City deserves good providers of water and electric service to aid it in its future expansion.
