Capitol preps for Kuyamis Festival

THE Provincial Tourism Department of Misamis Oriental has laid down the plans and twists for the 2019 Kuyamis Festival on Wednesday, saying activities will be fragmented and held in the different towns.

Provincial tourism officer Lawyer Jeffrey Saclot said instead of having all the activities held in the provincial capitol grounds, other municipalities will take part and host an activity to encourage active involvement from the towns concerned.

"The governor wants that the municipalities will be actively involved more than participating in the activities. This is one of the reasons why activities will be fragmented and pragmatic," Saclot said.

For instance, the nightly cultural presentation will be staged in three clustered towns in Binuangan for the first district, Tagoloan for the center municipalities and Initao for the 2nd district.

Saclot said they considered the location of the town and the support it could extend to the provincial government.

Also, the annual Miss Kuyamis pageant will likely be held at the Tagoloan dome since it is already covered and can accommodate a larger crowd.

Saclot said the street dancing competition will be staged at the Pelaez Sports Center.

He also revealed new activities such as Horse show and the participation of Senior High School in the exhibits.

"There might be more new activities to be introduced as preparations are still underway. We will have the final list of activities on the second week of December," Saclot said.

However, Saclot said there are activities that will still be conducted at the provincial capitol grounds such as the week-long display of various products and delicacies of each town through the Farmers' market, exhibits and booths, sports activities, among others.

The opening day will be held at the capitol but the tourism office is considering other venues for the closing of the celebration.

Saclot said the capitol is spending P8 million for next year's Kuyamis Festival as prizes in various competitions and the assistance to the different towns will be increased.

The annual celebration of Kuyamis Festival is set every second week of January.
