THE 1st ECCP Mindanao Golf Challenge, slated on November 30 at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club in Davao City, has exceeded organizers' turnout of participants.

This was bared yesterday by Jillian Sitchon, golf travel consultant of Davao City-based Hager Travel and Tours, during Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao.

“Our maximum target in this open tournament was only 60 players but as of this time, we have reached 72 registrants from Manila, Visayas and other parts of Mindanao,” she said, adding that Belgium Ambassador Michele Goffin is playing in the golfest that stakes exciting prizes.

European Union Ambassador Franz Jessen will guest in the ceremonial tee-off that also expects Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Sitchon, however, said they are still awaiting the confirmation of the mayor.

The staging of the Mindanao edition of the ECCP tournament came about since Hager Travel and Tours owner Emil Hager has been a regular player of the golfest in Manila for the past three years.

She continued, “The ECCP director suggested to Mr. Hager to bring the event in Mindanao. Since he plans to create golf tour packages in Mindanao, Mr. Hager agreed.”

Thus, the Mindanao leg is organized by ECCP in partnership with Golfer's Choice by Hager Travel and Tours.

Motortrade, Dusit Thani Residences Davao and Lubi Plantation Resort, Seda Abreeza Hotel, Marco Polo Hotel, The Italian Food Specialist, Inc., The Swiss Deli and Restaurant, Freedom, Inc., TUV SUD PSB Philippines and Ingenuity PH are sponsors while the city government of Davao through the Davao City Investment and Promotions Center is supporting the event.

According to a press statement, ECCP Manila has been organizing the ECCP Annual Golf Challenge at the Sta. Elena Golf Club, south of Manila, touted as one of the most prestigious golf tournaments organized by a foreign chamber.

Local golfers may still sign up. Registration of P3,000 is inclusive of green fee, twin-sharing golf cart, one bucket at driving range, lunch buffet with two rounds of soft drinks or local beer, golf shirt, goodie bag and free practice round.
