POWERHOUSE Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) is out to defend its six titles when the two-day 7th SunStar Football Cup unwraps this weekend at the Cebu City Sports Center.
With at least 30 teams in the tournament, DBTC is hoping for a repeat of last year when it won the Players 7, 9, 11, 15, 17 and 19 divisions.
Aside from the age group divisions, the DBTC coaches also have an entry in the men’s professional divisions and will be going against favorites Leylam and Erco in the division, which attracted a total of 10 teams.
Also returning to defend their title is girls powerhouse St. Theresa’s College, who won the 16-Under and 18-Under titles last year. They will be up against other favorites Guardian Strikers, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in the 16-Under division and will be facing Ateneo, the University of San Carlos (USC) ladies and USC-BED team in the 18-Under division.
The other notable entries in the age group this year are from Paref-Springdale, Giuseppe, Guardian Strikers, Cebu International School, Southwestern University, University of San Jose-Recoletos and Tabor Hills.
More than 140 teams signed up for this year’s tournament, including 10 in the first ever men’s professionals divisions. Aside from the Cebu-based teams, the touranment also attracted entries from San Carlos City, Ormoc, Bohol and Panay.
The first day will see the Players 6, 8, 10 and Boys 18, as well as the Girls 14, 16 and 18 divisions and the men’s professional divisions.
On Nov. 25 , it will be the turn of the Boys 12, 14 and 16 divisions. (ML)
