Second batch of plates arrives

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 this week received 35,340 new license plates for vehicles registered between March and December 2017.

Some 4,032 license plates are available for March; 2,729 for April; 2,870 for May; 2,698 for June; 2,934 for July; 3,277 for August; 3,145 for September; 3,412 for October; 3,645 for November; and 3,603 for December.

LTO 7 Director Vic Caindec said they also received 2,995 license plates for vehicles registered between January and August 2017.

Caindec said they have yet to receive new license plates for motorcycles, adding that the new plates are only for vehicles with four wheels and up.

He said they plan to distribute the new plates to car dealerships next month.

“But I’m planning maghimo og (to come up with a) big event sa usa ka (in a) mall wherein pwede makuha sa mga tag-iya ang license plates (vehicle owners can get the plates themselves),” Caindec said.

However, he said they don’t have a date yet.

This week’s arrivals are the second batch of plates to arrive after the first batch of 23,590 plates arrived last September from the LTO Central Office.

The first batch was for vehicles registered between July 2016 and February 2017.

Of the 23,590 plates, only 12,569 have been collected.

Owners need to get their new plates immediately otherwise they’d be fined P5,000, Caindec said.

Meanwhile, the LTO 7 launched its Temporary Off-Site Printing Office (Topo) at the Island Central Mactan (ICM) in Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City.

Caindec said the Topo Lapu-Lapu is the second Mega Licensing Office (MLO) in the whole region. The first MLO is located at SM Seaside in Cebu City.

The Topo Lapu-Lapu can process new driver’s licenses as well as renew and print licenses.

Caindec is grateful to ICM for its assistance, adding that the mall management took care of the office’s furnishings as well as its IT infrastructure at no cost to the agency as part of their Public-Private Partnership.

“We can now render better services,” he said.

At the Topo Lapu-Lapu, a transaction should take less than 30 minutes, as long as the client’s papers are complete, Caindec said,

He said the Topo Lapu-Lapu not only has a fast internet connection but its server is always online, eliminating the need for fixers.

He said the Topo Lapu-Lapu can accommodate around 100 clients daily, while they’re trying to finish all the installations in the office.

Lapu-Lapu City now has two LTO processing offices, with its office inside the City Hall compound still open to the public, Caindec said.

He said they plan to expand their office inside the City Hall compound, which will become the LTO District Office.

“We are giving the public so much options (to process their license),” Caindec said. From SCG & FVQ of Superbalita Cebu
