DCWD's 2Big Campaign converts plastics to school chairs

IN A bid to lessen plastic waste in the city, the Davao City Water District (DCWD) urged Dabawenyos to donate plastic waste for 2Big Campaign.

DCWD deputy spokesperson Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod said during the Connect press conference Friday, November 23, that they aim to obtain around 6,000 kilos of plastic waste to produce some 200 chairs.

She also said that initially they only collected from among their employees. This collection netted around 4,300 kilos of plastic waste.

“Since it's out of the bag and customers are calling in, we would be accepting their donation,” Duhaylungsod said.

Plastic waste donation from the customers will be accepted until November 29, 2018 since these will yet to be turned over to their service provider to be fabricated into school chairs.

The weight of the plastic waste will be monitored since the fabrication is limited to 6,000 kilos.

The types of plastics to be used for this advocacy are the soft plastics, ranging from food wrappers to as hard as the DCWD water pipes.

“Once they're done we'll be donating those chairs in time naman for Brigada Eskwela next year,” Duhaylungsod said.

The chairs will then be donated to their partner school in watershed rehabilitation area.

Dabawenyos who are interested to donate their plastic trash can contact DCWD through 297-3293 to know where their donation can be picked up.
