THE Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) has inaugurated its District Field Unit Office on the second floor of the Public Market Building in San Carlos City.
The facility was previously located in Toboso town. Its inauguration was held on Tuesday, November 20.
PVO, in a press release, said the transfer of office was prompted by the threat brought by the recently African Swine Fever, a viral disease of pigs and wild boar that is usually deadly among animals.
However, given that San Carlos City has one of the major seaports in the province, there is still a need to ensure socio-economic and animal health concerns, it said.
Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena emphasized that the PVO District I Field Unit in San Carlos will pave way for bringing more veterinary services closer to all barangays of the city and other nearby localities.
Decena said the strong collaboration of San Carlos City Agriculturist Office and PVO District I Field Unit will guarantee sustainable implementation of veterinary programs and projects.
“This will spur livelihood opportunities and boost the income of local animal raisers especially of goat,” he said, adding that the district office will also work on advocating good nutrition by conducting proper meat handling and butchery trainings.
Meanwhile, the inauguration was led by District Veterinarian Maria Regina Gawan. Also present were Mayor Gerardo Valmayor Jr. and other city government officials.
