THE Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) on Friday, November 23, accompanied a group of national athletes and government officials checked the ongoing construction of the sports complex in New Clark City (NCC) in Tarlac.
BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Vivencio Dizon presented to the athletes the NCC sports facilities which are being constructed in preparation for the 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2019 which the Philippines will host.
Dizon told the athletes and officials that the NCC sports complex include a 20,000 seating capacity Athletic Stadium, 2,000 seating capacity Aquatics Center, and an Athletes’ Village.
“The Athletic Stadium was inspired by the caldera or crater of Mount Pinatubo and the contours of the surrounding Sierra Madre ranges,” Dizon noted.
He shared that what makes the design iconic was the variety of textures, golden colors and organic lahar material of the concrete take from the identity of the site.
“The Aquatics Center, on the other hand, took inspiration from the Philippines’ archipelagic lifestyle: Capiz shells inspired roof structure while the structural framing mimics the weaving patterns of baklad or woven fish nets,” he explained.
The Athletes’ Village has a total of 525 units wherein 95 of which are specifically intended for Persons with Disabilities.
It also has an amenities gym, library and conference rooms in each floor, kitchen and dining area, basketball court, swimming pool and deck gardens.
