Minimum fare of modern PUJ P8.50

THE fare of the modern jeepney in at least two routes in Cebu City will be 20 percent higher than the existing approved rate, according to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 on Saturday, Nov. 24.

LTFRB 7 Director Eduardo Montealto Jr. said a new minimum fare has not been approved yet. But for the new air-conditioned public utility jeepney (PUJ), the minimum fare will be P8.50 instead of the existing minimum fare of P6.50.

“A bit fraction of (the approved fare) may be allowed. No fare matrix, no trip policy shall be imposed,” Montealto said.

The modern PUJs are supposed to be equipped with a speed limiter, a global positioning system, a dashboard camera and Wi-Fi.

Montealto said their office will launch 40 modern PUJs of the Persano Corp. at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, at the at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

“This is part of the initial implementation of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Plan (PUVMP),” Montealto said.

The first suggested route is from Cebu City Hall to Robinsons Galleria to Cebu Business Park to the Cebu IT Park and vice versa. The second route will pass the hospital zones from Banawa to B. Rodriguez (Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center) to Osmeña Blvd. (Visayas Community Medical Center) to Ramos St. (Velez General Hospital) to Gorordo Ave. (Perpetual Succour Hospital) to Landers Superstore and to Sykes in Panagdait.

From the start, former LTFRB 7 now LTFRB 3 Director Ahmed Cuizon and Benjamin Ryan Yu, who was the chairman and general manager of the Cebu Integrated Transport Service Cooperative (Citrasco), spearheaded the modernization’s implementation.

Yu resigned from Citrasco last October. The current chairman is Jericho Jumapao, while the general manager is Alma Solis. EOB
